Horror Movies

We are looking at different genres, especially Horror and the generic conventions in them.
Horror film is a genre with a purpose of creating a sense of fear, panic, alarm and dread for the audience. These films are often unsettling and rely on scaring the audience through a portrayal of their worst fears and nightmare. Horror films usually centre on the arrival of an evil force, person or event, many include mythical creatures such as ghosts, vampires and zombies. Traditionally, Horror films incorporate a large amount of violence and gore into the plot. Though it has its own style, Horror film often overlaps into Fantasy, Thriller and Science-Fiction too.

Conventions of  Horror Movies

Positives of Creating a Short Film on Horror
You don't need to overcomplicate the storyline, horror films can be based on a range of fields, and people will be scared. They are also easy to make like the Blair Witch Project made in 1999 (
Found video footage tells the tale of three film students (Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, Michael C. Williams) who've travelled to a small town to collect documentary footage about the Blair Witch, a legendary… More local murderer. Over the course of several days, the students interview townspeople and gather clues to support the tale's veracity. But the project takes a frightening turn when the students lose their way in the woods and begin hearing horrific noises.)
which was made on a very low budget making a very successful horror. You don't need to get to know the characters either, the story isn't about them, its just for the audience to feel fear.
Negatives of Creating a Short Film on Horror
Don't have as much time to build up tension, and then break it, build it up, break it, build it up to create suspense. You also don't get same kind of investment in a character, the psychological side to their story or finding out about them.

What makes us engage with something?

Mark Scheme Analysis

In class we looked at 3 blogs they were:
http://blogs.grammar.sch.gg/oolaner01
http://blogs.grammar.sch.gg/gabriellesmith
http://blogs.grammar.sch.gg/danieldegaris

The idea of this task was to start to get familiar with the mark scheme and to identify where the masks where the masks were picked up and what they were picked up for in the research and planning section. The good thing about this task was that we were able to see what are the do's and don'ts of what to use in our blogs.

Each blog we looked at got different grades in which we have to evaluate our selves to see what mark we as students would give it. Looking at each of these blogs allowed us to get tips on what to include at A2 and get full marks or at least brilliant blogs.

Picture Task

We all received an image in which we knew nothing about, we each wrote down 3 questions we wanted the answers for, this was passed around and our class mates could be creative or original in answering them. The images were then passed around again to someone different were a plot needed to be drawn from the information received. The image is below.
The questions and answers were:
How old is the building? Very
Where is it? Somewhere in Wymondham at least in England.
Who did it belong to? An elderly couple who inherited it from their ancestors, the houses has been in the family for centuries.
My plot from this was:
'This house belonged to Belle Boyd a famous spy of the 20th century, an elderly couple inherited from ancestors , the eerie feel to it is to cover up their true identity, of being part of her Majesty's Secret Service. Every morning they leave their house with a tatty wicker basket, the man with a hanky up his sleeve and the lady with her little charity shop headscarf on. They catch the number 17 bus at 8.13 on the dot to an underground base where they help catch some of Europe's most notorious criminals.'
Some previous students have got their final A2 film ideas from this task, if I was to do so too, it would need some refining.
